The Story of Washakie:

The care and maintenance of horses is a major expense at Whitehawk Ranch. The average cost for just one horse annually is approximately $4600.00. This includes the cost of boarding, hay, grain, regular vet visits, shoeing, and other miscellaneous items that are needed to ensure the health and longevity of our 4-legged brothers.

Our current horse for “adoption” is Washakie. He is a 6 year old Rocky Mountain Paint who has charmed the staff as well as participants. Washakie’s story is a miracle. He was rescued from a neglectful home but not before being hit by a car.

Washakie’s story is a miracle. He was rescued from a neglectful home but not before being hit by a car. He healed from the car accident and has a scar on his left hip to prove it. But once taken to a rescue facility, he was attacked by another horse and pushed into a tractor that tore his mid-section down to the intestinal wall. He was rushed to the hospital where he spent 12 days. After a year of recovery, this little guy has received a clean bill of health.
